Fake car accident scams drive up insurance premiums; New York drivers pay an extra $300 per year.

The citizen advocacy group "Citizens for Affordable Rates" (CAR) issued a new warning on the 8th, pointing out that these scams cost ordinary drivers an extra $300 in premiums annually, and urging Governor Hoch to take immediate action to close the legal loopholes.

CAR spokesperson José Bayona stated that staged car accidents have evolved into an organized "black industry" involving drivers, illegal medical clinics, and legal gangs. "These criminal groups specifically exploit hardworking New Yorkers, causing insurance premiums to rise continuously. We hope this alert will remind the public to be vigilant and urge the government to intervene.” Read more.
