CAR LAUNCHES STATEWIDE MAIL CAMPAIGN THANKING GOV. HOCHUL AND LEGISLATORS FOR HISTORIC DEAL TO LOWER AUTO INSURANCE COSTS

New Direct Mail Campaign Urges New Yorkers to Thank State Lawmakers for Passing Budget Reforms That Crack Down on Fraud and Return Money To Drivers

NEW YORK – Citizens for Affordable Rates (CAR) today announced the launch of a new statewide direct mail campaign thanking Governor Kathy Hochul and state lawmakers for passing an historic agreement to reduce New York’s high auto insurance costs. The mailers, hitting households this week, are part of a robust “thank you” campaign urging residents to contact their local representatives for delivering much-needed financial relief in the state budget.

Key to the Governor’s affordability agenda, the final budget agreement advances comprehensive auto insurance reforms designed to address long-standing cost drivers. This includes cracking down on fraud ringleaders, closing loopholes that allow bad drivers to get jackpot payouts, and ensuring excess insurance company profits are returned to policyholders.

The mail campaign features two pieces shipped to households statewide:

  • Mailer 1 (“Albany Got It Done”): Focuses on the anti-fraud mechanisms and consumer protections included in the budget framework, contrasting out-of-control premium hikes with real reform.

  • Mailer 2 (“Overtime Savings”): Celebrates the legislative session’s results, highlighting how lawmakers stood up to special interests to deliver real relief for working families and seniors.

“This was a hard-won compromise,” said James Freedland, a CAR spokesperson. “We recognize legislators took a political hard stand, and New Yorkers should know their representatives are fighting to make their lives more affordable. Governor Hochul and state lawmakers got results for consumers in the state budget, and it’s time to thank them for standing up to powerful interests to lower our bills.”
